Transformer sizing for solar power plant

Time:2024-11-29    Auther:ZTelec-www.ztelectransformer.com

The transformer of the solar power plant is an indispensable equipment in the photovoltaic system. It is mainly used to convert the low-voltage alternating current generated by the solar panel into high-voltage alternating current, and is transmitted to the grid. At the same time, the transformer can also control and protect the current. At present, the commonly used transformer models on the market are three-phase transformers, intelligent transformers, steel plate transformers, etc.

Transformer sizing for solar power plant

1. Three-phase transformer

Three-phase transformers are one of the most commonly used transformer types in solar power plants. Its size is usually determined according to the rated capacity. The following are some common specifications and their approximate dimensions:

S9-M 10kV transformer: Rated capacity of 10000kVA, its size is about 2600mm high, 1500mm wide, 1800mm long.

S10-M 20kV transformer: Rated capacity is 20000kVA, its size is about 3200mm high, 1900mm wide, 2300mm long.

S11-M 35kV transformer: Rated capacity of 35000kVA, its size is about 3200mm high, 2000mm wide, 2600mm long.

2. Intelligent transformer

Intelligent transformer is a relatively new type of photovoltaic power station transformer. It has real-time monitoring and protection functions and can achieve remote monitoring and management. Its size also varies according to rated capacity:

SZ10-M 10kV transformer: The rated capacity is 10000kVA, its size is about 2000mm high, 1200mm wide, 1800mm long.

SZ11-M 20kV transformer: Rated capacity is 20000kVA, its size is about 2200mm high, 1300mm wide, 2000mm long.

SZ11-M 35kV transformer: Rated capacity of 35000kVA, its size is about 2600mm high, 1600mm wide, 2400mm long.

3. Steel plate transformer

A steel plate transformer is a lightweight transformer commonly used in small power transmission, drive and protection in solar power plants. Its size is relatively small. Here are some common specifications and their approximate dimensions:

SGB10-M 10kV transformer: The rated capacity is 10000kVA, its size is about 1300mm high, 1000mm wide, 1200mm long.

SGB11-M 20kV transformer: Rated capacity is 20000kVA, its size is about 1550mm high, 1100mm wide, 1400mm long.

SGB11-M 35kV transformer: Rated capacity of 35000kVA, its size is about 1700mm high, 1200mm wide, 1600mm long.

‌Principles of selection of solar power plant transformers ‌

‌Load loss and no-load loss: Due to the particularity of photovoltaic power generation (daytime power generation), the transformer always produces no-load loss, so the load loss of the transformer is required to be as low as possible. If the transformer is running at night, the no-load loss is also required to be low‌.

‌Self-cooling, low loss power transformer: Self-cooling, low loss power transformer is preferred to reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs‌.

Protection level: For coastal or wind-sand large photovoltaic power stations, the protection level should reach IP65 and IP54‌.

The role of transformers in solar power plants

Transformers play a key role in solar power plants, the main roles include:

Voltage conversion: The low-voltage direct current generated by the photovoltaic panel is converted into high-voltage alternating current suitable for power grid access.

Power optimization: Improve the transmission efficiency and utilization rate of power through reasonable voltage conversion.

Safety isolation: Ensures the safety and stability of power transmission.
