1. Insulation: Transformer oil has excellent electrical insulation properties, effectively preventing short circuits and leakage while isolating the current between the windings and the core, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the equipment.

2. Cooling: A transformer generates a substantial amount of heat during operation. Transformer oil can absorb and carry away this heat, preventing damage to the equipment due to overheating. Specifically, when the temperature of the windings and core rises, the oil gets heated and ascends, while the cooled oil sinks, forming a circulation that maintains a relatively stable operating temperature.

3. Corrosion Protection: Additives in transformer oil can effectively reduce the risk of mechanical components being corroded by the external environment, extending the equipment’s lifespan. Furthermore, transformer oil helps prevent the intrusion of moisture and other impurities, keeping the internal environment of the equipment clean.

4. Fire Suppression: In the event of equipment failure or short circuits, high temperatures may lead to fires. However, transformer oil has a relatively high flash point, which helps reduce the risk of fire, though safety measures must still be implemented.

5. Lubrication: Within the transformer structure, there are many moving parts. Transformer oil can effectively reduce the wear of these components by serving as a lubricant, increasing the mechanical efficiency of the transformer.

With its unique structural design and the role of oil as a medium, oil-immersed transformers play a vital role in power systems. While the working principle of the transformer is based on simple laws of electromagnetic induction, the multifaceted functions of transformer oil are particularly effective in its application. By providing insulation, cooling, corrosion protection, fire suppression, and lubrication, transformer oil not only ensures the efficient operation of the equipment but also guarantees the safety and stability of the power system.
