What is a three-phase transformer?

Time:2024-09-6    Auther:ZTelec-www.ztelectransformer.com

‌ A three-phase transformer is an electrical device used to convert the input three-phase AC power to the output three-phase AC power through different winding connections. ‌

The main components of a three-phase transformer include an iron core (or magnetic core) and a coil. It can be adapted to different input and output voltages through multiple windings, which can be star or triangular connections. Three-phase transformers can be in symmetrical operation, the phase voltage, current size is equal, phase difference from each other 120 degrees, which makes it can be analyzed like single-phase transformers.

Three-phase transformers can be implemented in the following two ways:

‌ combination method ‌ : It is composed of three single-phase transformers with the same capacity. This method is called three-phase transformer group.

‌ integrated method ‌ : three iron core columns are connected together through an iron yoke to form a three-phase transformer. This method is called three-phase core transformer.

Three-phase transformers are widely used in power systems because they conform to the three-phase power supply mode commonly used in modern power systems. Whether combined or integrated, the operation principle of the three-phase transformer is based on the characteristics of the three-phase power system, ensuring the stability and efficiency of the power supply. ‌
